The Power of Shopping Local: Building a strong economy in koochiching county

3/15/2023

Picture
As the owner of a technology services business in our lovely rural town, I have experienced the positive impact of shopping local. This isn't just about my store – it's about all the locally owned businesses that are the heart and soul of our community. By supporting one another, we foster a vibrant local economy, contribute to the well-being of our neighbors, and preserve the distinctive charm of our town. In this article, let's explore the importance of prioritizing locally owned businesses and how this benefits not only our economy, but also the non-profits and community organizations that enrich our lives.
  • Bolstering the Local Economy
When we shop local, we invest in our community. Each dollar spent at a local business contributes significantly to the local economy, creating jobs, supporting schools, and funding public services like fire and police departments. In contrast, shopping at large corporations or online retailers means that a much smaller portion of our spending stays within the community.
  • Personalized Customer Service
Local businesses often offer more personalized customer service. Business owners and employees tend to have a deeper understanding of their customers' needs and preferences, leading to a satisfying shopping experience and stronger relationships between businesses and their patrons.
  • Fostering Local Creativity and Entrepreneurship
By choosing to shop local, we inspire innovation and creativity. Small businesses are more likely to take risks, experiment with new ideas, and provide unique products or services that might not be available through larger chains. This entrepreneurial spirit not only enhances the character of our town but also instills a sense of pride and ownership among residents.
  • Supporting Local Clubs and Youth Activities
Local businesses play a crucial role in nurturing community clubs and youth activities. By shopping locally, we help provide financial resources for these organizations through sponsorships, donations, and fundraising events. This support enables clubs and activities to thrive, offering opportunities for personal development, leadership, and teamwork among our town's youth.
  • Contributing to Local Non-Profits
Many locally owned businesses generously support non-profit organizations that improve our community. From sponsoring youth sports teams to donating goods and services to fundraisers, these businesses play a vital role in ensuring that our town's non-profits can continue their essential work.

By shopping locally owned before considering local businesses with out-of-town owners, we can direct our spending towards businesses that genuinely invest in our community. We should also pay attention to the larger companies operating in our town and consider their contributions to our community before making purchasing decisions. Some of these companies contribute a lot to our community while others contribute nothing besides jobs(which aint nuthin).

Shopping local is about more than just supporting small businesses. It's about nurturing a strong, vibrant community where everyone benefits. By choosing to spend our money at locally owned businesses, we can enhance the well-being of our neighbors, support local non-profits and community organizations, and ensure that our town continues to flourish for generations to come. Let's work together to make our rural community the best it can be, one purchase at a time.

Ted Saxton's Mission to Spark Interest in Chess: A Story of Community and Passion

3/14/2023

Picture
Ted Saxton is a man with a passion for chess. He is the co-owner of Small Town Tech and spends most of his free time playing the game. Ted considers himself a lifelong learner and a novice player, despite playing over 1000 games each year. He always looks for ways to improve his skills and knowledge of the game.

Ted lives in International Falls, Minnesota, a small town where there isn't much chess activity. Ted saw this as an opportunity to generate more interest for the game in his community. He had less time for over-the-board chess due to his work and family commitments but still wanted to find a way to bring people together to play.

So, he created www.ifallschess.com, a website dedicated to all things chess. The website has a range of resources for chess enthusiasts, including rules of the game, tips on how to improve, and an online chess club. The online chess club has a link https://www.chess.com/club/ifalls-chess, which Ted created to bring local players together. It's a great way for players to connect, start games and improve their chess skills.

The website also offers visitors the chance to submit their games to be analyzed and posted on the blog. Ted understands that analyzing your games is a great way to learn and improve your chess. He hopes that by posting the analyzed games, other players can also learn from them.

But what's really exciting about the website is the chance to play against Fritz, an advanced chess engine. Fritz is known for its high level of play and advanced analysis features. The engine provides players with an opportunity to test their skills against a worthy opponent.

Ted is proud of his website and hopes it will help bring more people into the world of chess. He believes that chess is a game that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or skill level. Ted's passion for chess has inspired him to create a platform that makes it easy for people to learn, play and connect with other players.

In conclusion, Ted Saxton's website, www.ifallschess.com, is a great resource for chess enthusiasts in International Falls, Minnesota. It's a place where players can connect, learn, and play against a high-level chess engine. Ted's passion for the game has brought people together and generated interest for chess in his community.

As a technology company, we know that technology is constantly evolving. In the past few years, we've seen major changes in the tech landscape, and as a result, we've had to adapt and evolve our business model. We've become more thorough in our documentation process, and we've raised our minimum standards to keep up with the latest cyber threats.

We believe that our customers are our top priority, and we've worked hard to earn their trust. We understand that our customers rely on us to provide the best advice and to treat their businesses as our own. That's why we are excited to announce that we are making the technology plan mandatory for all new customers starting from March 2023.

The technology plan is a comprehensive roadmap that outlines how you can protect your business from cyber threats. It includes actionable items and timelines that are customized to your specific security risks. This means that you don't have to overhaul all of your technology at once, but can work on improving your security measures gradually.

If you are a managed service customer, you will be grandfathered in for a free technology plan. This means that you won't have to worry about any additional costs or fees. We believe that this is the right thing to do, and it's our way of showing our customers that we value their business.

As part of the technology plan, we require that we manage your network, and every computer that is used for business purposes must have our Pro+Tech service installed. This is a critical step in protecting your business from cyber threats. With Pro+Tech, you'll have access to real-time monitoring, proactive maintenance, and remote support.

We believe that having a technology plan in place is an essential part of running a successful business in today's world. We understand that technology can be complex, but we're here to help. Our team of experts is available to provide you with the support and guidance you need to protect your business.

At Small Town Tech, we believe that our customers deserve the best protection and advice available. That's why we're making the technology plan mandatory for all new customers. We're committed to helping our customers navigate the complex world of technology and to keep their businesses safe from cyber threats. An Ode to Jim's MAsk

A dirty mask, once fresh and clean,
ow marked by dust and attic sheen,
Its once-white fabric now stained and gray,
From hours spent in the attic fray.

It clung to my face, with every breath,
As I pulled wires, and crawled through the mess,
Dirt and grime, clung to the mask,
It was now a reminder of the attic task.

The mask that once, protected me so,
Was now a symbol, of the hard work below,
Though it was worn and tattered now,
It kept me safe, as I worked with a bow.

For all the filth, and dust, and grime,
That it endured, time after time,
It held its own, with every chore,
And kept me safe, as I worked more.

So, here's to the dirty mask, that still stands,
And kept me safe, in the attic lands,
A reminder of hard work and sweat,
And a mask that, though dirty, never let.
